Summer in Paradise

The City of West Palm Beach’s annual “Summer in Paradise” (S.I.P.) campaign went out with celebration and cheer on July 26 at Clematis by Night as guests at the waterfront event bid on the summer-long art installation, the “Fairy Tale Playhouses.”

In partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County, the playhouses aimed to raise awareness of the need for affordable housing while also being a source of summer fun for young children. The child-sized homes, painted by local artists and depicting popular fairy tales from all over the globe, made their debut on June 7 and were sent off with much fanfare, as each playhouse was auctioned off in support of a pre-assigned charity. In addition, corresponding mailboxes were also auctioned. In total, the City raised $14,680 for 15 local nonprofits, including Habitat for Humanity, Autism Speaks, The Lord’s Place, Inc., and Take Stock in Children Palm Beach County, among others.

In addition to the action-packed auction, the “Jack and the Beanstalk” playhouse by artist Frank Navarrete was named the favorite playhouse, as voted by visitors. During the display of the installation, visitors had a chance to support a playhouse of their choosing by putting chips inside the playhouse’s corresponding decorated mailboxes. In the end, “Jack and the Beanstalk” won with more than 1,000 votes.
