Friday with the FRIENDS Book Club: A Brown-Bag Lunch Event @ your City Library
Date: 03-14-2014 Starting Time: 11:30 am
Join us for some book chatter at 11:30am followed by a moderated book discussion with Tina Maura, the library's book goddess. For the month of March the book to be discussed is "The Last Runaway" by Tracy Chevalier. Description: Following a broken engagement, Honor Bright sails across the ocean in search of a new beginning. The harrowing trip behind her, she settles in Ohio in 1859 and is soon drawn into the clandestine activities of the Underground Railroad. In a land where life is practical, precarious and largely unsentimental, Honor, a modest English Quaker, must decide if conscience and principle are luxuries she can no longer afford or essentials she cannot live without. Luminous prose and finely researched detail illuminate her journey in a powerful story that affirms the potential we all have to make a difference. The book club is a brown-bag lunch event. Bring your own lunch or purchase lunch before you arrive from any downtown Merchant. This event is free and open to Friends members and the public. All are welcome! Sponsored by the FRIENDS of the Mandel Public Library.
