Following an emergency, the City may order a moratorium on all new construction.

Temporary emergency repairs can be done without obtaining a city permit.

The Department of Construction Services will open emergency permit processing centers to handle storm-related repairs. Call 805-6700 for locations.

All storm-related permit requests will be given priority, and will be reviewed before all other requests.

Within 48 hours of the storm, The City will do an initial damage assessment of every structure in the City.

A more thorough damage assessment will be completed within 3 weeks of the storm.

Before you hire anyone to repair your home, make sure they are licensed. Call the Department of Construction Services at 805-6700 to check them out!

Here are some other tips:
Ask for references from prior customers.
Ask for photos of previous work.
Ask for proof of registration with the state and proof of liability and workers compensation insurance.
Make sure you get a bid in writing.
