More Flood Related Information

Flood Basins : For purposes of stormwater runoff the City of West Palm Beach is divided into four primary basins. These are the: Water Catchment Area (WCA), Palm Beach Canal (C-51), Lake Worth Lagoon, and C-17 Canal. The westernmost part of the City is adjacent to the WCA, the central part of the City is adjacent to either the C-51 and/or C-17 canals and the easternmost City is adjacent to the Lake Worth Lagoon.

Typical Flood Hazard : Hurricane Irene (1999), as a “wet storm,” with over 10 inches of rainfall in a 24-hour period generated widespread flooding in the City. Some areas that experienced significant flooding during the storm included Dreher Park, Stub Canal, The Villages, Foxhall, Prospect Park, Presidential Estates and Ironhorse. Flooding from Irene provided useful information in the identification of problem areas within the City. This data was included in the development of the City's new Stormwater Master Plan.
