Property Protection Measures

There are various actions which can be taken to protect property from flood damage. Electrical panel boxes, water heaters, pool equipment, and washers/dryers should be elevated or relocated to a location less likely to be flooded.

If flooding is likely, and time permits, move essential items and furniture to the upper areas of your home. Keep materials like sandbags, plywood, plastic sheeting, and lumber handy for emergency waterproofing. This action will help minimize the amount of property damage caused by floodwaters.

Retrofitting can minimize damage from occurring. This involves building flood walls, elevating the structure, etc. Information on retrofitting flood prone structures is available in the West Palm Beach City Library, the Construction Services Department or visit the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA).
