CARPENTER


SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, performs general carpentry maintenance and repair of City facilities, constructs forms for use in maintaining utility infrastructure, remodels offices and work areas; and performs related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order)

  1. Receives work orders or project assignment from supervisor.
  2. Assembles and prepares materials necessary to complete assignment.
  3. Establishes and maintains a safe work area.
  4. Reworks and remodels existing facilities; installs drywall.
  5. Repairs windows and doors damaged by vandalism.
  6. Performs preventative maintenance on existing structures.
  7. Constructs and installs cabinets, computer desks, shelving, boxes and counters.
  8. Constructs forms for use in maintaining utility infrastructure.
  9. Completes and submits routine reports and other paperwork in a timely manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. The City of West Palm Beach promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma, GED, or vocational training, and seven (7) years of related experience or completion of a related apprenticeship program, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Florida driver’s license is required.
