CUSTODIAN


SUMMARY: Under direct supervision, cleans and maintains the interior and exterior of City buildings, sets up rooms or outdoor spaces for special events, may perform minor repairs; and performs related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (which are not in any hierarchical order)

  1. Cleans, sanitizes and deodorizes rest rooms.
  2. Sweeps and vacuums carpeting and floors using manual and power equipment.
  3. Mops, scrubs, waxes, shampoos, and spot cleans carpeting and floors.
  4. Empties waste cans and ashtrays.
  5. Cleans woodwork, walls, and windows using common household equipment and cleaning products.
  6. Sets up and breaks down for meetings and special events.
  7. Sweeps sidewalks and entryways.
  8. Cleans and dusts offices.
  9. Performs minor maintenance work such as changing light bulbs, repair fixtures and furniture.
  10. Keeps equipment and supplies in order and requests more when needed.
  11. Maintains exterior of facility clean including trash pickup.
  12. Maintains recreation equipment, such as basketball nets, courts, etc. as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves manual labor generally in an indoor setting. There is frequent need to stand, walk, talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach with hands and arms and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. The City of West Palm Beach promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Eighth grade education and six (6) months of custodial experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
