Nuts and Bolts provides training on Family Medical Leave Act, Drug Free Workplace, Workplace Violence, document processing, leave administration, time and performance management, ethics, preventing workplace violence, and more.
The five-day program is open to current supervisors and aspiring supervisors.
"During the week, I've had a chance to role play different scenarios within groups and we learned ways of better handling situations before they get out of hand. I found that after taking this course, I believe I am a better employee, and I also have a greater understanding and appreciation of the supervisor position. The most important thing I learned is that anyone can be a supervisor, but to be a good supervisor you need to be a good listener, be fair, acknowledge accomplishments of peers and subordinates, work on departmental goals within the group, develop and encourage teamwork, and most of all, lead by example. Thank you for the opportunity to attend the class." Robin Hewitt, Contract Specialist, Engineering Services Department.
"The transition from the private sector to the public sector had been very difficult for me because the work environments were quite different. The training has enabled me, both as a supervisor and as an individual, to become a better person. My communication skills have become better, and generally working with my team and colleagues enhanced significantly after the training program. The concept of working as a team became quite clear to me, and the contributions of every member of the team are important. Understanding the proper procedures when dealing with employee situations was quite helpful, especially when situations arise that required some type of disciplinary action. I would highly recommend the training to all supervisors." Dhaneish Ramdin, Horticulturist, Recreation Department.
