City employees become the best they can through our training programs and services. Whether employees' desires are to practice interviewing skills, create a resume, sharpen supervisory skills, be promoted to the exciting world of supervision, or become more proficient with software, the City has a solution to help employees succeed.
"I'm living proof that training works! On August 15, 2005, I took the first Nuts and Bolts supervisory training program and followed that with the Advanced Nuts and Bolts supervisory training program on September 19, 2005. I wasn't a supervisor at the time, but wanted to prepare myself so I was ready when an opportunity arose. That opportunity came in September of 2006, less than a year after the programs! I was promoted to Code Enforcement Supervisor thanks, in part, to the knowledge I gained during training. I learned many things during the programs that helped me later. One specific example, I learned interviewing techniques and how to hire the right candidate. This helped me understand what employers were looking for in a candidate, which helped me when I interviewed. I also was able to use the training after I became a supervisor when I sat on an interview panel. I've taken many other classes during my career with the City and recommend that anyone who wants to be promoted take advantage of the training the City offers."
