City Approves Limited Phase 3 Water Restrictions
Apr 24, 2007 - Mayor's Office
Monday, April 23, 2007 – The City of West Palm Beach Commission has approved a limited version of Phase 3 water restrictions, cutting the number of days per week residential customers can water their lawns from two to one, and cutting the hours watering is permitted. The restrictions are expected to take effect later this week.
Once the new restrictions take effect, West Palm Beach water customers with odd numbered addresses (ending in 1,3,5,7, or 9) may water their lawns on Saturdays only, from 4:00 A.M. to 7:00 A.M. Water customers with even numbered addresses (ending in 0,2,4,6, or 8) may water their lawns on Sundays only, from 4:00 A.M. to 7:00 A.M. It is recommended that customers only water their lawns for 10-15 minutes per zone during the allotted three-hour water period. Since lawn watering uses nearly 50% of our water supply, it is critical that residents follow the water restrictions to help the City conserve.
The new restriction applies to residential yard watering only. Hand watering is still permitted for a total of sixty minutes between the hours of 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. on Wednesdays and Saturdays for odd-numbered address, and Thursday and Sunday for even-numbered addresses.
The new restrictions on residential yard watering must still be approved through an emergency order from the South Florida Water Management District. Approval is expected in the coming days. The district is also expected to allow the City of West Palm Beach to tap in to some additional water resources, helping to supplement the City’s water supply during the current drought.
All residents and businesses are encouraged to conserve water in any way possible. A list of water conservation tips can be found at wpb.org. To ask questions about watering or to report violations, West Palm Beach water customers should call the City’s 24-hour hotline at 822-2222.
