WPB Now Under Limited Phase 3 Water Restrictions
Apr 27, 2007 - Mayor's Office
April 27, 2007 - The City of West Palm Beach has enacted “Limited Phase 3” water restrictions, cutting the number of days per week residential customers can water their lawns from two to one, and cutting the hours watering is permitted. The restrictions take effect immediately. The South Florida Water Management District has signed an emergency order authorizing the enactment of limited Phase 3.
“All residents need to be sure they follow the new restrictions, and help us save water,” said West Palm Beach Mayor Lois J. Frankel. “This drought is serious, and we need the public to conserve.”
West Palm Beach water customers with odd-numbered addresses (ending in 1,3,5,7, or 9) may water their lawns on Saturdays only, from 4:00 A.M. to 7:00 A.M. Water customers with even-numbered addresses (ending in 0,2,4,6, or 8) may water their lawns on Sundays only, from 4:00 A.M. to 7:00 A.M. It is recommended that customers only water their lawns for 10-15 minutes per zone during the allotted three-hour watering period. Since lawn watering uses nearly 50% of our water supply, it is critical that residents follow the water restrictions to help the City conserve.
The new restriction applies to residential yard watering only. Hand watering is still permitted for a total of sixty minutes between the hours of 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. on Wednesdays and Saturdays for odd-numbered address, and Thursdays and Sundays for even-numbered addresses.
The emergency order allows the City of West Palm Beach to tap in to additional water resources, helping to supplement the City’s water supply during the current drought.
All residents and businesses are encouraged to conserve water in any way possible. A list of water conservation tips can be found at wpb.org. To ask questions about watering or to report violations, West Palm Beach water customers should call the City’s 24-hour hotline at 822-2222.
