City “Amnesty” Ends in Just One Week

May 24, 2007 - Mayor's Office

May 24, 2007 – There is just one week left for residents to take advantage of the City of West Palm Beach’s “Amnesty” program, a highly-successful yard waste removal project.  Between now and June 1st, 2007, City residents can place as much yard waste and vegetative debris at the curb as they like, and the City will pick it up and remove it FREE OF CHARGE.

This popular program is designed to encourage residents to trim back trees, plants, and bushes prior to hurricane season.  Doing so reduces potential storm debris and helps limit damage.  Amnesty also helps keep the streets clear of debris after the storm, keeping the roads open for emergency vehicles and reducing the clogging of storm drains.

Amnesty 2007 began April 1st.  In less than two months, City crews have picked up nearly three million pounds of yard waste, hauling off nearly 350 truckloads.

Amnesty is only available to the City’s residents.  Private services and contractors are not permitted to use this program, and must arrange for their own hauling.  Residents should put the vegetative debris at the curb for pickup on their normal vegetative pickup day.
