City Honored with “Livability” Award by US Mayors

June 25, 2007 - City of West Palm Beach Mayor Lois J. Frankel is proud to announce that the City’s “Kaleidoscope” educational program has been recognized with a “2007 City Livability Outstanding Achievement Award” by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Waste Management. Given at the 2007 annual conference in Los Angeles, the award recognizes mayoral leadership for developing and implementing programs that improve the quality of life in America’s cities.

City Closings, Schedule for Independence Day

Monday, June 25th, 2007

06/25/07 - All City of West Palm Beach offices, including City Hall, will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, 2007 in observance of Independence Day.

The City Commission meeting scheduled for Monday, July 2, 2007 has been cancelled.

Residential garbage, yard waste, commercial garbage, and recycling will all be picked up according to their normal collection schedule.

Right Turn Lane Work

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

06/22/07 - Please be advised Palm Beach County will begin construction to extend the right turn lane on the west approach of Northlake Blvd at Beeline Hwy, on Monday June 25, 2007.
Construction will be performed outside peak hours to minimize impact to the motorists, and should only affect the outside lane. Intermittent closures may be necessary. Construction should be completed within two weeks, weather permitting.

City Continues Restoring Wilderness Park

June 19, 2007 - City workers are continuing renovations and upgrades to Apoxee (pronounced uh-po-ee) Park, a wilderness area set aside for preservation, environmental education, and public enjoyment.  City crews have been treating and eradicating more than 75 acres of invasive and damaging vegetation, helping restore the park’s natural ecosystem.

(June 19, 2007 – West Palm Beach, FL) – On Sunday, June 24, The City of West Palm Beach is bringing Fab Tunes, A Cool Scene and Good Vibes to downtown West Palm Beach with the second concert in The Palm Beach Post Sunday at the Meyer series.  Guests can spend Sunday afternoons at the Meyer with good times and great entertainment along the picturesque Flagler Drive waterfront – all for FREE!  This month, patrons can enjoy the sizzling sounds and dance to the Latin rhythms of Tiempo Libre.

Teen Volunteers Helping Local Vet

Monday, June 18th, 2007

June 19, 2007 - Dozens of teenage volunteers participating in the “M-Fuge” program are spending part of their summer working on the home of a local disabled veteran.  The teen’s activities are being coordinated through the City of West Palm Beach’s Vickers House.

City Set to SALUTE AMERICA at 4th on Flagler

and Truck & Trailer USA to Give Away an H3 Hummer

(June 15, 2007 – West Palm Beach, FL)  The City of West Palm Beach will SALUTE AMERICA at this year’s 4th on Flagler event with 50 Americans flags to wave proudly over Flagler Drive, 150 Navy Sailors visiting from the USS Kauffman FFG 59 in harbor at the Port of Palm Beach, and one stirring opening ceremony that will honor our U.S. troops.  Mayor Lois Frankel and Mary Pinak, Community Events Manager for The City of West Palm Beach, announced at a news conference today at the Meyer Amphitheatre all of the festivities set to take place at this year’s event including the new SALUTE OUR TROOPS flag program. Water Treatment Update

June 12, 2007 - The City of West Palm Beach Department of Public Utilities will temporarily change the City’s water chlorination methods for two weeks, beginning Monday, June 18, 2007 and ending Monday, July 2, 2007.  This precautionary measure will help keep the water supply free of bacteria.

Closing of Park Place

Monday, June 11th, 2007

06/11/07 - The City of West Palm Beach would like motorists to be aware that Park Place will be closed to traffic between South Dixie Highway and Florida Avenue beginning Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 5:00 A.M. The road is expected to re-open to traffic on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 5:00 A.M. The road will be closed for repair work at the F.E.C. railway crossing of Park Place.

Detour signs will be in place at the work site. Motorists should use South Dixie Highway or Florida Avenue to Palm Street. Local traffic will be permitted on limited areas of Park Place.
