City Honored with “Livability” Award by US Mayors

June 25, 2007 - City of West Palm Beach Mayor Lois J. Frankel is proud to announce that the City’s “Kaleidoscope” educational program has been recognized with a “2007 City Livability Outstanding Achievement Award” by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Waste Management. Given at the 2007 annual conference in Los Angeles, the award recognizes mayoral leadership for developing and implementing programs that improve the quality of life in America’s cities.

“Kaleidoscope is an outstanding event, and I’m pleased to accept this prestigious honor on behalf of all those who make the event such a success,” said Mayor Frankel. “Kaleidoscope is a celebration of the many cultures that make our City great, and today were celebrating that diversity even more.”

“This is yet another honor for this tremendous educational event,” said West Palm Beach Community Events Manager Mary Pinak. “Kaleidoscope continues to be recognized as an outstanding celebration of our community and one of the best educational events in the world.”

Kaleidoscope was selected from a pool of over 200 applicants based on mayoral leadership, creativity and innovation, and broad impact on the quality of life for residents. Kaleidoscope is one of the most-honored programs in the City of West Palm Beach, having previously been recognized as “Best Educational Program” and “Best Community Outreach Program” by the International Festivals and Events Association.

Outstanding Achievement Awards for cities with populations of 100,000 or more were received by Honolulu (HI), Louisville Metropolitan (KY), Oklahoma City (OK) and West Palm Beach (FL).
