(Monday, July 30, 2007) City of West Palm Beach crews have finished the road construction project at the intersection of South Dixie Highway and Monceaux Road a month ahead of schedule. South Dixie Highway at Monceaux Road is now open to traffic.
“I’d like to commend City staff and everyone who worked on this project on a job well done,” said West Palm Beach Mayor Lois J. Frankel. “The fact that South Dixie Highway is reopening a month early is welcome news for motorists, nearby residents, and business owners.”
The City replaced underground storm drainage, sewer, and water piping. The contractor performing the work, Chaz Equipment Company, worked extended hours, including some weekends, to help bring the project to early completion. Work crews also encountered less groundwater than originally anticipated, helping reduce the project’s duration.

Following discussions with South Florida Water Management District officials and an evaluation of the city’s water system Mayor Lois Frankel supports continuation of the limited phase three restrictions for the City of West Palm Beach.
Mayor Frankel would like to ease restrictions in the future but feels additional time is needed to protect capacity. “While some of our water levels have significantly increased other areas are still drought stricken. At this time I feel it would be prudent to allow additional time for water to fill reserve areas that can give us an additional buffer during dry periods.”
