(04/21/08) A report written by Florida State University evaluating the West Palm Beach Youth Empowerment Center and Palm Beach County’s Youth Violence Prevention Project will be issued at a Palm Beach County Commission Workshop on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at County Commission Chambers.
The report is expected to announce findings that the City’s Youth Center, which targets at-risk teens, has helped cut crime, provided a “turning point” in the lives of the teens who attend programs there and has saved taxpayers millions of dollars in the process.

(04/21/08) City of West Palm Beach Mayor Lois J. Frankel will be joined by approximately eighty third-grade students from Westward Elementary School at a special tree planting ceremony to celebrate Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 beginning at 9:00 a.m. The ceremony will take place near the Westward Elementary School main entrance.
The third grade students will perform a musical selection, read a theater script called “Why We Plant the Tree” and will help with the tree planting ceremony.
A total of sixteen trees will be planted during the ceremony, including five Foxtail palms.
Olive Avenue lane reduction

Affected Area: Olive Avenue near Banyan Boulevard.
(04/16/08) Due to work being preformed on a traffic signal, there will be lane reductions on Olive Avenue near the intersection of Banyan Boulevard beginning Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. The work is expected to be completed by 5:00 p.m.
Access to area businesses and parking garages will not be affected. Access to Banyan Boulevard from Olive Avenue also will not be affected.
GreenMarket Celebrates Another Successful Season

April 16, 2008 – West Palm Beach, FL — The West Palm Beach GreenMarket is marking the end of another successful season on Saturday, April 19 from 8:00am to 1:00pm in downtown West Palm Beach. Market patrons can come and enjoy the last Chef Throwdown at 10:00 am and live music with Nicholas Marks while making their final shopping trip of the season.
The West Palm Beach GreenMarket has grown tremendously over the past thirteen years with new and unique vendors each season and loyal market-goers returning week after week to this great family-friendly event. The West Palm Beach GreenMarket is known for offering fresh products to the community in an inviting outdoor environment, making it this area’s most popular market and a Saturday morning ritual for many residents. The market features a wide variety of vendors each week whose offerings include local produce, freshly baked breads, pastries, artisan cookies, seafood, cheeses, fresh herbs, orchids, tropical plants, fresh cut flowers and more, as well as the GreenMarket Café and free parking for market patrons.

The City of West Palm Beach’s Vickers House will help residents with last-minute income tax preparation and filing at the Vickers House North at 811 Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The City offers free tax preparation assistance to eligible residents through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The service is available to people who earned less than $40,000 in 2007.
So far this year, the Vickers House has helped nearly 1,500 people with tax preparation and helped secure more than $1.3 million in refunds.
