Meet Senator George McGovern!

Senator George McGovern will be at the new library on Tuesday, April 21st from 6 to 8 pm on the 4th floor Grand Reading Room.
He will be discussing his latest book Abraham Lincoln. Senator McGovern has a PhD in History and will answer questions, and sell copies of his book.

Road work at intersection of Olive Avenue and Lakewood Road

When: Beginning Monday, April 20, 2009
Where: Intersection of Olive Avenue and Lakewood Road
(04/17/09) Due to underground infrastructure improvements, the intersection of Olive Avenue and Lakewood Road will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, April 20, 2009. The intersection is expected to be closed for thirty days.
Traffic should detour via Dixie Highway.

Join us for book discussions on Homer’s Iliad, translated by Stanley Lombardo on Tuesday, April 21st and Aeschylus’ Oresteia, translated by Peter Meineck on April 30th. Expert scholar Dr. Konstantinos P. Nikoloutsos will be exploring the theme “From Homer to Hip-Hop-Reinventing the Classics” and will lead the group in lively discussions on classical literature. This event is part of Page and Stage, an in-depth partnership between the West Palm Beach Public Library and the Aquila Theatre in New York, with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Road Closures for City Center Grand Opening Event

Affected Area: Dixie Highway & Clematis Street in downtown West Palm Beach
(04/15/09 – West Palm Beach, FL) The City of West Palm Beach would like to advise motorists of the following road closures on Thursday, April 16 for its City Center Grand Opening event:
All Day Road Closures:
10:00 am to 11:00 pm - Clematis Street between Quadrille Blvd. and Dixie Hwy
10:45 am to 11:00 pm - Dixie Highway between Banyan Blvd. and Clematis Street
Temporary Road Closures:
The following road closures are temporary for the City Strut Employee Parade at 11:00 a.m. down Clematis Street. The West Palm Beach Police will reopen roads immediately after the last parade component has crossed each intersection and the roads are clear:
10:00 am to 12:00 pm - Narcissus Avenue between Clematis Street and 2nd St.
10:00 am to 12:00 pm – 2nd Street between Narcissus and Olive Ave.
10:00 am – North Clematis Street between Flagler Dr. and Narcissus Ave.
10:00 am – Lantana between Banyan Blvd. and North Clematis Street
10:45 am – South Clematis Street between Flagler Dr. and Narcissus Ave.
10:45 am – 200 & 300 block of Clematis St. between Narcissus Ave. & Dixie
10:45 am – Narcissus Ave. between Datura St. and Clematis St.
10:45 am – Olive Ave. between Datura St. and Banyan Blvd.
