Northwood Village Art & Wine Promenade and Art & Humanities Month Celebrations

Where: 400 – 500 blocks of Northwood Road, Spruce Street and in Restaurants on 24th and 25th Streets in Northwood Village

Who: Produced by the West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency and Northwood Village Merchants

The Northwood Village Art & Wine Promenade on Friday, October 30th, will feature live music by three bands, Billy Bones, Sonny Russell and Pan Man Machines Steel Drums; three FREE  “bootique” wine tasting stations; and more than thirty streetside artist trunk shows along with special offers at participating shops and restaurants.  This monthly event recently won the distinguished Roy F. Kenzie Award from the Florida Redevelopment Association for Cultural Enhancement.

It’s a Baby Shower—for 75 Moms!

You’re invited to a baby shower—for 75 soon-to-be Moms!

The baby shower will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Vickers House South at 3801 Georgia Avenue.  It is suggested that media wishing to cover the event plan to arrive at 1:30 p.m.

As part of “Make a Difference Day,” the City of West Palm Beach’s Vickers House will be giving 75 babies a wonderful beginning through a group baby shower for their moms.  The moms are all being assisted by the Vickers House’s Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies program and are financially limited as to what they can afford on their own.

All of the gifts that are a part of the baby shower have been donated by the community.

Final Sunday at the Meyer FREE Concert

Where: Meyer Amphitheatre, Flagler Dr., West Palm Beach

(October 22, 2009 – West Palm Beach, FL) –The City of West Palm Beach will conclude the popular FREE The Palm Beach Post Sunday at the Meyer concert series with the final performance on October 25th.  Guests can experience fab tunes, a cool scene and good vibes in downtown West Palm Beach.  This FREE outdoor concert allows guests to enjoy the beautiful West Palm Beach waterfront while listening to some great entertainment.  This event also offers FREE kids’ activities, FREE treats from the Mayor, and FREE parking at all City meters, lots and garages; making it one of the greatest concert series the City offers.  This family-friendly concert will be held this Sunday, Oct.25th from 4:30 to 7:30 pm at the Meyer Amphitheatre in downtown West Palm Beach.  The featured band is:

Sugarfoot’s Ohio Players are a funky-pop-R&B blend of master musicians surrounding the exuberant and soulful “Sugarfoot”, the signature voice and personification of the original Ohio Players.  Their signature sounds and horn-powered grooves topped the Pop and R&B charts in the 70’s with smash hits such as “Fire” and “Love Rollercoaster.”  Sugarfoot’s Ohio Players meld together elements of jazz, soul, funk, and pop to bring their fans a “street funk” party.

TREATS FROM THE MAYOR

Mayor Lois Frankel will continue her tradition of passing out cookies to the crowd during the band breaks.  This crowd pleaser allows guests to introduce themselves and become familiar with the Mayor in a casual and friendly atmosphere.  Guests are invited to come and meet the Mayor, say hello, or just indulge in a Sunday afternoon cookie sponsored by National City.

CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINMENT
There will be lots of fun, interactive games and activities for children including hoola hoops, sidewalk chalk, limbo contests, coloring books, and bubbles – all for FREE.
