Join Mayor Lois Frankel, WPB City Commissioners, Artist Ulrich Pakker (designer of the sculpture) and others as we open and dedicate the new Gateway Park and Sculpture “Arrived”.  This park and 24 ft. tall Sculpture will welcome visitors to the city as they enter on Okeechobee Blvd.

(11/19/09)  All City of West Palm Beach offices, including City Hall and the Library, will be closed on Thursday, November 26th, and Friday, November 27th, 2009, in observance of Thanksgiving.

Thursday’s residential garbage, commercial garbage and yard waste routes will be picked up on Friday, November 27th.  Friday’s routes will be picked up on Saturday, November 28th.  Saturday’s routes will be picked up on Saturday.

There will be no recycling pick up on Thursday, November 26th.  Recycling will be picked up on the following Thursday, December 3rd.

18th Annual Share a Supper in West Palm Beach

500 student chefs at the Florida Culinary Institute have been working for days to bring a very special meal to the table for some 1000 guests. On November 24th area residents are invited to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal at no cost on a first come first served basis.  This 18th year of the event will bring the total number of people fed by the institute and the donors to over 20 thousand.

Join Mayor Lois Frankel, the West Palm Beach City Commission, and all the volunteers as they serve up turkey with the fixings and desert at this Holiday tradition on Tuesday, November 24 from 4:30 – 6:30 at the Pleasant City Multicultural Center Gym. 500 22nd Street in West Palm Beach.

Here’s what went into the meal:

200 dz. Rolls , 100 Whole Turkeys , 260 pounds of Mashed Potatoes ,
140 pounds of Candied Yams , 9 cases of Turkey Stuffing , 40 Gallons of Turkey Gravy
90 pounds of Vegetables , 40 pounds of butter , 125 pounds of Cranberry Sauce
425 Donated Pies/Cakes , Coffee & Soda

Downtown West Palm Celebrates Holidays with Events Every Weekend for 6 Weeks and Becomes a Downtown Wonderland

ONE HUNDRED decorated Live Christmas trees turn Downtown West Palm Beach into a Holiday Wonderland. The “Festival of Trees” is in full bloom along Clematis Street in a multicultural showcase of holiday traditions. Over 36 cultures from around the world are represented in the project. Enjoy the overhead holiday lights and all the special sights and sounds and flavors of the season in the premier place to celebrate…downtown West Palm Beach.

Holiday events will be taking place virtually every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for the next 6 weeks as part of the first ever Downtown Holiday Kaleidoscope.

The WEEKLY free events include:

Holiday Clematis By Night in Centennial Square Every Thursday night from 6-9pm. December 3 to December 17. In keeping with the World Holiday theme are multicultural performances from Sabor Latino (Latin) on Dec. 3; Amandla Tunesmith (African dance, Soukous) on Dec. 10; and the Lahinch Mob (Celtic Rock) on Dec. 17.

Friday Night Holiday Jazz in Centennial square every Friday from 5:30 – 8:30 Nov. 20th thru Dec.18th.     Enjoy holiday Jazz under the stars.  Outdoor dining available from Pistache, a French Bistro. Entertainment from: Friday, November 20th: Jesse Jones Jr Quartet, November 27th: The Magic City Jazz Band, December 4th: The Joey Gilmore Jazz Band, December 11th: The Phil Jazz Band Featuring Paul Williams, December 18th: Dr “J” and Company Featuring Dr. “J”.

West Palm Beach Holiday Green Market at the Old City Hall Every Saturday from 8AM – 1PM.November 28 to December 19.  The most popular market in the area featuring more than 60 vendors selling locally grown and just harvested fruits and vegetables, baked goods, fresh-cut flowers and more.  For the Holidays, the Market will feature recipes from around the world, an International Chef Showcase and global entertainment.

The International Holiday Taste on Saturday November 21st is from 5:30-8:30PM.  The 200 block of Clematis is transformed into an al fresco dining experience featuring a variety of foods for under $5 from downtown restaurants Forte, Leila, Rocco’s Tacos, Grease Burger Bar, Reef Road Rum Bar and more! Mayor Lois Frankel will light up all of the Downtown Holiday Kaleidoscope festivities at 6pm and music by Son Columbia will fill the evening air.

The Polar Express on Friday December 4th from 5:30-7:30 at City Center.
Inspired by “The Polar Express” novel, the West Palm Beach Public Library welcomes local children to hop aboard the downtown trolley to ride the polar express to Santa’s workshop at the North Pole where a variety of games and crafts, treats and famous holiday figures await.

New Photo Centre Offering Free Admission

Palm Beach Photographic Centre Located at City Center in Downtown WPB

(Thursday, November 19, 2009) Families on a budget and looking for a fun and educational outing this holiday season need look no further than City Center in downtown West Palm Beach.

The newly-opened Palm Beach Photographic Centre, located at City Center, is offering free admission from now until December 30, 2009. Guests can visit all three of the Photo Centre’s exhibits free of charge, including the “Celebrating US” exhibit on Presidential inaugurations and historic White House moments.

“Located next to our City Hall and state-of-the-art downtown Library, the Palm Beach Photographic Centre is an outstanding addition to City Center,” said Mayor Lois J. Frankel. “With free admission through the end of the year, I’m sure thousands of people will be paying them a visit.”

The Photo Centre is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Current exhibits include “Celebrating US,” “Gatherings: Anna Tomczak,” and “Infocus: 13th Annual Juried Exhibition.”
