There WILL be garbage, yard waste and recycling pickup on Monday, September 6, 2010.

Civic Complex Awarded 2010 “Project of the Year” by Urban Land Institute

(Friday, August 27, 2010)  West Palm Beach’s City Center and Waterfront project, which includes the new Public Library and City Hall, took top honors at the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Annual Vision Awards banquet.  The civic complex and waterfront redevelopment were awarded 2010 Public Sector “Project of the Year” for the ULI Southeast Florida/Caribbean Region.

“This is a tremendous honor for these public projects,” said Mayor Lois J. Frankel.  “City Center and the waterfront continue to bring thousands of visitors a day to our City and our downtown, and we thank the Urban Land Institute for recognizing their importance and success.”

City Center houses the West Palm Beach Public Library, which is on pace to have more than one million visitors in 2010.  The civic complex is also home to City Hall and the Palm Beach Photographic Centre.

Stretching nearly a full mile along the intracoastal waterway, the revitalized Waterfront includes three free public docks, the environmentally-friendly Lake Pavilion, stunning water features, versatile open space and a walking path lined with lush landscaping.

The Urban Land Institute is a nonprofit research and education organization supported by its 30,000 members worldwide.  The ULI facilitates the open exchange of ideas, information and experience among industry leaders and policy makers.

Northwood Village Art & Wine Promenade, Casual Summer Fun

This month’s Art & Wine Promenade features something for everyone: a “beer tasting” at Relish located at 401 Northwood Road, 17  complimentary wine samplings (with many from our new Florida wine sponsor, Lakeridge and San Sebastian Wineries), each shop featuring different wines and live music in 3 locations featuring Shauna Sweeny, Davis & Dow and more.  Along with delicious wine and beer and awesome music there are many unique art displays throughout the Village to enjoy.  While you get to know the real faces and real places of Northwood Village, get to know your own artistic side. Express your creativity by painting on the community  mural with local artist David Alfonsetti and discover the art of mosaics at Northwood Glass Art & Gifts by placing tiles on the Northwood Village Commuinty Mosaic Project. Palm Beach Photographic Centre – Scavenger Hunt in downtown WPB

Calling All Kids

The Palm Beach Photographic Centre is offering parents a very unique way to spend a Saturday with their kids 8 to 17 years old. Let your children participate in a FOTO Scavenger Hunt on Saturday September 11th.  The Scavenger Hunt starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.  The FOTOscavenger Hunt is a celebration of the photographic arts in conjunction with Downtown West Palm Beach’s historic heritage and young people ages 8 to 17 are invited to capture downtown West Palm Beach with a camera. Those participating with have the rare opportunity to learn “10 tips to a better photograph” from one of the Centre’s exceptional professional photographers. Not only will they learn how to take better photos, but they will have their images individually critiqued. Each participant will receive a list of “historically significant clues and a map.    The clues will focus on patriotic symbols in our Downtown West Palm Beach area. The best pictures will be displayed. The registration fee is $25 per child, accompanying adults are free. An additional $10 fee will charged if you want to use one of the Centre’s cameras.  Every child MUST be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited, register today!

“The Enforcers” Display of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles
2nd Thursday of Every Month

Spectacular, high-end motorcycles will be setting up shop the 2nd Thursday of every month as “The Enforcers” hit CbN. The bikes will be on display in Centennial Square at the foot of Clematis Street near the fountain.

Many of these bikes have a patriotic theme, and they are all sure to get you revved up.
