Weekly City Event Will Celebrate the Music of the King of Pop

cbn-09_-mj_center-box4(August 14, 2009 – West Palm Beach) Clematis by Night, the City’s Hot Spot to Chill, will celebrate the music of the King of Pop on Thursday, August 27 in honor of Michael Jackson’s birthday (August 29). This special Michael Jackson Birthday Tribute will “thrill” guests with a number of festivities for the public to enjoy and participate in.

Tony Wilson and the Godfather of Soul Band
Tony Wilson will electrify the audience with a tribute to the music of Michael Jackson while incorporating his own style, showmanship, charisma and dance moves. Tony, a Chicago native, has been crowned “Best Michael Jackson Entertainer,” he served as a body double and decoy for Michael Jackson during the “Victory” tour, and he even performed on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Tony recently released a song he wrote for Michael Jackson entitled “We Call Him Peter Pan” that he will perform at this special tribute. Tony will also mix it up with some James Brown tunes, as he has been endorsed as the YOUNG JAMES BROWN by the Godfather of Soul himself, and some of this own soul and R&B tunes.

pushplay_01(July 29, 2009 – West Palm Beach, FL)  Clematis by Night, the area’s Hot Spot to Chill, will get even hotter this week as national recording artist Push Play takes the stage for a special opening-act performance sponsored by WiLD 95.5.  You can check out the pop rock sounds of this up and coming band FREE OF CHARGE on Thursday, July 30, 2009, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Centennial Square in beautiful downtown West Palm Beach. Push Play will perform until 6:30 p.m., at which time the band will stick around to meet their fans at the WiLD 95.5 booth.

Clematis by Night Continues at City Center

The Music & Fun Move Up the Street for Two  More Thursdays

(June 15, 2009 – West Palm Beach, FL )  As the City of West Palm Beach continues the downtown waterfront revitalization project, the FREE weekly Thursday night concert, Clematis by Night, will remain at City Center through the end of the month.  Clematis by Night will continue the music and fun at the City Center Courtyard, located on the corner of Clematis Street and Dixie Highway, for the next two Thursday nights:   June 18 and June 25 , until the work around Centennial Square is completed.

Clematis by Night is held every Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  Guests can enjoy great live music, mix and mingle with friends, and do a little sidewalk shopping.  Clematis by Night will return to its normal venue in Centennial Square on Thursday, July 9, 2009.  There will be NO Clematis by Night on Thursday, July 2  as the City prepares for its 4 th  on Flagler Independence Day celebration.

Residents should also by aware of the following road closures during the move of Clematis by Night:

Clematis by Night Road Closures :  On June 18 and June 25, Dixie Highway will be closed to traffic between Banyan Boulevard and Clematis Street from 2:00-11:00 p.m.  In addition, Clematis Street will be closed to traffic between Dixie Highway and Quadrille Boulevard from 2:00-11:00 p.m.

The Music & Fun Move Up the Street for the Next Three Thursday Nights

(May 26, 2009 – West Palm Beach, FL)  As the City of West Palm Beach continues the downtown waterfront revitalization project, its FREE weekly Thursday night concert will move up the street during work around Centennial Square.  Clematis by Night will move the music and fun to the new City Center Courtyard, located on the corner of Clematis Street and Dixie Highway, for the next three Thursday nights:  May 28, June 4 and June 11.

Clematis by Night is held every Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  Guests can enjoy great live music, mix and mingle with friends, and do a little sidewalk shopping.  Clematis by Night will return to its normal venue in Centennial Square on Thursday, June 18, 2009.

Following are additional scheduling changes that residents should also be aware of:

Clematis by Night Road Closures: On May 28, June 4 and June 11, Dixie Highway will be closed to traffic between Banyan Boulevard and Clematis Street from 2:00-11:00 p.m.  In addition, Clematis Street will be closed to traffic between Dixie Highway and Quadrille Boulevard from 2:00-11:00 p.m.

Centennial Square Fountain:
Due to electrical work, the Clematis Street fountain in Centennial Square will be closed for a period of approximately two weeks beginning Monday, June 1, 2009.  Signs are being put in place to notify people of this temporary closure.

This summer Thursday nights are getting even hotter!  On the second Thursday of each month, guests can get two great events for the price of one by doing the “Hot Hop” between Clematis by Night and the Norton’s Museum’s new Art After Dark event.  Clematis by Night patrons can jump aboard Hop Palm, the new electric vehicles that are a fun, safe, eco-friendly way of getting around downtown West Palm Beach for FREE.  The Hop Palm cars will take patrons to the Norton Museum to check out the new Art After Dark event for more fun including art, music, film and refreshments.  Admission to Art After Dark is $8.00 for adults, $3 for ages 13 to 21, and children 12 and under and Museum Members are FREE.  Event patrons can pick up a $2.00 off admission to Art After Dark coupon at Clematis by Night and register to win great prizes from the Norton including free tickets to Art After Dark and a free Norton Museum Membership.  The Hop Palm cars will run continuously between both events from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., so that event patrons can “hot hop” between both events at their convenience.  For more information about Hop Palm, please visit www.hopcities.com, and for more information about the Norton Museum’s Art After Dark, please visit www.norton.org.

Dee Dee Wilde is one of South Florida’s most dynamic and captivating entertainers known for her talent to sing low and sweet like Sade, tempestuous like Chaka, or dramatic like Whitney.  Dee Dee has performed as a soloist on the LP’s of some impressive artists including James Brown, Phyliss Hyman, Howard Hewitt, INXS, Gerald Albright and Gerald Alston.  Dee Dee has also had two of her own hits from her two albums, “No Way Out” and “Getaway”.   Don’t miss her group’s tight and versatile performance on the Clematis by Night stage full of warmth and good cheer.  A portion of this evening’s proceeds will benefit the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Directions to Clematis by Night
From I-95 exit east onto Okeechobee Boulevard.  Travel east on Okeechobee until you reach Quadrille Boulevard.  Turn left (north) onto Quadrille Boulevard and proceed north until you arrive at Clematis Street.  At Clematis Street make a right (east) and continue east past Olive Avenue to Centennial Square.  Centennial Square is located in the 100 block of Clematis Street between Narcissus Avenue and Flagler Drive.

Parking
Ample public parking is available at the following City garages and surface lots at reasonable rates:
The NEW Clematis Street Garage, located on the corner of Clematis Street and Quadrille Avenue.
The Banyan Street Garage, located at Banyan Boulevard and Olive Avenue, just one block North of Clematis Street
The City Hall surface parking lot, located East of City Hall at Olive Avenue and Banyan Street, just one block North of Clematis Street
The Evernia Street Garage, located at Evernia Street and Olive Avenue, just two blocks South of Clematis Street
Numerous private parking lots in the downtown area are also available for parking and a free trolley runs round-trip from Clematis Street to CityPlace.
