(Friday, February 20, 2009)  The City of West Palm Beach Public Library will be without electrical power from 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2009, until noon on Sunday, February 22, 2009.

During this time, the public will not be able to access the library’s on-line resources or use any telephone services, such as over-the-phone book renewal.

The power outage is due to repairs to a nearby electrical system.  The repair work is being conducted overnight so that library operating hours will not be affected.

(10/29/08) The West Palm Beach Public Library will unveil a new, interactive 3-D multimedia exhibit as part of the celebration of the City of West Palm Beach’s 114th birthday. The celebration and unveiling of the exhibit will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the WPB Library located at 100 Clematis Street in West Palm Beach.

The exhibit will use a fun, interactive display to show how Clematis Street and downtown West Palm Beach have changed and evolved over the years. Visitors will also be offered a slice of birthday cake, have a chance to listen to a barbershop quartet and be able to play old-fashioned games.

(06/19/08)  The West Palm Beach Public Library invites you to “Be Anything” by participating in the 2008 summer reading program.  The library will kick off the summer reading program with a special appearance by author Holly Cleeland on Saturday, June 21, 2008, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the West Palm Beach library located at 100 Clematis Street.

The theme of the summer reading program is “Be Anything at your City Library,” since you can be anything, travel anywhere and do anything just by opening a book and reading.  Author Holly Cleeland will talk about her book “Glue and Go Costumes for Kids,” and three costumes will be given away at the event.

Children ages 12 and under can get free admission to the Palm Beach Zoo by showing a valid West Palm Beach library card at “Wild about Reading” on Saturday, November 3, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The Palm Beach Zoo is located at 1301 Summit Blvd.

All children presenting a valid Palm Beach County or West Palm Beach library card will receive free admission to the zoo for themselves and one adult.

The event will feature celebrity readers, book giveaways and children’s entertainment.
