City of WPB Reapportionment Open House

Aug 12, 2011 - Mayor's Office

City of West Palm Beach residents are invited to view the proposed City Commission Reapportionment Map at the City’s Planning Department Office. Planning Staff will be available during the following dates/times to answer questions:

Redistricting Open House
Saturday, August 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Library – Clematis Room

The City is required by Charter to reapportion the City Commission district boundaries within six (6) months of official publication of the 2010 Census data, which was released on March 17, 2011.

For this redistricting effort, City staff successfully utilized specialized redistricting software and created a new commission district map that represents: 1) nearly equal population in each District; 2) each District population within the required 10% deviation between the District with the highest population and that with the lowest population; 3) Districts being arranged in a logical and compact geographical pattern; and 4) Districts that promote fair representation.

“I encourage West Palm Beach residents to participate in this important discussion. Their voices will help to insure proper representation for neighborhoods and communities throughout the city”, Mayor Muoio.
