Southern Blvd Resurfacing Project Open House Wed. Jan. 11, 2012

On Wednesday, January 11, 2012, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will host an informational Open House for the resurfacing project on Southern Boulevard/ State Road 80, from Parker Avenue to just west of Washington Road, in the City of West Palm Beach. The Open House will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the City of West Palm Beach Fire Rescue Station #2, 4301 South Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, FL, 33405, about 2 blocks south of Southern Boulevard. Project personnel will be on hand to discuss the scope of work, construction schedule, and address questions and comments.
This 0.77-mile project began Jan. 3, 2012, and will last 170 days, weather permitting. The estimated cost for construction is $1.5 million, with an estimated completion date of summer 2012. Work is being performed by Community Asphalt Corporation, with the Florida Department of Transportation’s Palm Beach Operations Center overseeing the project.

The Summer Academy At Your City Library Is In Session!
Did you know that in the summer, kids can lose 20 to 30 percent of what they learned during the prior school year? The West Palm Beach Public Library wants to stop your child’s “summer slide” by offering free, fun, educational programs for elementary age children in a great learning environment!
Our Summer Academy is designed to keep the minds of children actively engaged by providing interactive programs under the supervision of a certified educator. At the summer Academy your child will play and learn while being taught key concepts through carefully developed lesson plans, tutoring sessions and educational games! Each week a different grade level will be featured.
Registration which begins June 6 is required and attendance at all four days is expected. The Summer Academy is underwritten by a grant from The Jim Moran Foundation.

Kindergarten: June 20 – June 23
1st graders: June 27 – June 30
2nd graders: July 5 – July 7
3rd graders: July 11 – July 14
4th graders: July 18 – July 21
5th graders: July 25 – July 28

West Palm Beach City Administrator Edward Mitchell has been selected by the Florida City and County Management Association as the recipient of the 2011 “Michael J. Roberto Award for Career Development.”
This prestigious recognition is awarded to an FCCMA member who has made a significant contribution to the development of new talent in professional local government management (internships, mentoring, etc.).
Mayor Jeri Muoio said of the award, “I Congratulate Mr. Mitchell and appreciate the recognition of those city staff members who do exceptional work for our citizens every day.”
