Non-Trash Collection on July 4, 2011, Recycling Continues

As part of the city’s efforts to minimize impact on customer service while saving money, City Hall will be closed on Friday July 1, and Monday, July 4, 2011 for the Independence Day Holiday. This includes a furlough day for which employees are not paid.

PLEASE NOTE: Residents who normally have their residential garbage pick-up on Monday should put their trash out on their next regularly scheduled pick-up day. In addition, the city WILL provide pick-up of recycled materials as well as commercial dumpster service on Monday but WILL NOT be picking up residential yard waste.

West Palm Beach City Hall and the West Palm Beach Public Library will be closed on Monday, July 4, 2011 for the Independence Day Holiday.

Memorial Day Holiday Schedule and Garbage Pick-up

West Palm Beach City Hall and West Palm Beach Public Library will be closed on Monday, May 30, 2011 for the Memorial Day Holiday.

The city will provide pick-up of recycled materials as well as commercial dumpster service on Monday but will not be picking up residential yard waste or garbage. Residents who normally have their residential garbage pick-up on Monday should put their trash out on their next regularly scheduled pick-up day.

City of West Palm Beach Yard Waste Amnesty Program

In order to help citizens prepare for the upcoming hurricane season, The City of West Palm Beach is encouraging residents to trim branches and thin trees. To facilitate this effort, an amnesty program for yard waste collection will begin on April 15 and run through May 30. This means that the city will pick-up oversized yard debris that is more than the standard ten cubic yards.

Landscapers, gardeners and tree companies must still haul away their own waste.
All other yard waste rules apply and pick-up will be on your regularly scheduled day.

Massive 12.7 Million Dollar Public Works Project Ribbon Cutting

City officials and neighborhood leaders will officially commemorate the successful completion of the Broadmoor Streets Project at a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 5:30PM at the corner of Martin Avenue and Hunter Street in West Palm Beach.

This $12.7 Million project was completed in less than two years. The project resulted in the rebuilding of a Neighborhood, a total of 13 streets were reconstructed. “This project was the largest Public Works Project initiated by the City and it’s completion on time is the result of the outstanding cooperation between residents and city government,” said Commissioner Bill Moss. The project protects properties from flooding with improved drainage, modernized water pipes, improved safety through reconstructed streets with improved parkways and street trees throughout the Broadmoor neighborhood.

The project included replacement of over 15,000 linear feet of water main, installation of almost 50 Fire Hydrants greatly reducing the distance to a fire hydrant and increasing the City’s ability to provide Fire Protection. Almost 5,000 linear feet of exfiltration trench was installed to treat stormwater runoff prior to discharge into the Intracoastal, 9,000 linear feet of new and replacement stormwater piping was installed to increase movement of rainfall events away from private properties. Over 200 new street lights were installed, and over 270 new street trees.

In addition, the city will provide pick-up of recycled materials as well as commercial dumpster service on Monday but will not be picking up residential yard waste or garbage. Residents who normally have their residential garbage pick-up on Monday should put their trash out on their next regularly scheduled pick-up day.
