Construction on the new Waterfront Commons project is set to begin when we “uncork the bottle” on Monday, May 18th at 11AM by beginning demolition on the old city library.

Come learn about this incredible new destination complete with a new beach, waterfront pavilion, exotic gardens, and many more unique amenities for residents and visitors.  Photo CD’s and blow-ups will be on site for the media to show the public how the waterfront will be transformed over the next few months.

Removal of the old library is an important step as this will open Clematis Street to waterfront views and provide easy flow and access to this new jewel in the city’s crown.

A brief ceremony featuring the Mayor and other dignitaries will honor the old facility and will be followed by a shower of confetti as the demolition starts and the new waterfront era begins.

Join us for this colorful event with an exotic performing island band, an explosion of confetti, building demolition and photographic details of these one of a kind facilities as we take West Palm Beach into the era of an open public waterfront.

New Public Docks to Energize Waterfront, Downtown WPB

Apr 10, 2009 - Waterfront

The City of West Palm Beach’s downtown waterfront revitalization is taking a major step forward with the opening of three new public docks along Flagler Drive.

“This is an exciting event and a significant part of our commitment to enliven our downtown, embrace our waterfront and bring people to West Palm Beach,” said Mayor Lois J. Frankel. “These new docks will be enjoyed by boaters and pedestrians alike.”

The three docks are all open to the public, with two dedicated to boaters seeking a slip for the day.  The middle dock is the largest of the three docks.  It offers the perfect spot for families taking a walk, businesses people looking for a tranquil spot to enjoy lunch or visitors soaking in the downtown scenery.  The three docks feature unique underwater ecosystems, planters with native plants, seating areas for the public and secure day docking for boaters.

The docks project was completed with the support of the Florida Inland Navigation District, which presented the City a check for $4.25 million at the grand opening.  The docks have also already been honored with the Florida Marine Industries “Project of the Year” award.  The Downtown Development Authority and Whiting-Turner are also supporting the project and the celebration.

The docks are a key component of the City’s downtown waterfront revitalization project.  The project will beautify and re-energize the entire downtown waterfront, from Banyan Boulevard to Lakeview Avenue.  The revitalization is expected to be completed in December 2009.
