Trash Collection Schedule: Permanent Northern and Southern collection routes use Okeechobee Blvd. as dividing line. Refuse is picked up on Northern routes on Mondays and Thursdays and on Southern routes on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Mission: To maintain the grounds of the Train, Police and Fire Stations, Right of ways, Canals, Re-pump/Lift Stations to promote a clean, safe and esthetically pleasing environment for the citizens and visitors of West Palm Beach. To ensure the storm water dispersing capacity of the City infrastructure is capable of preventing or reducing flooding when storm conditions put us at risk.

Structure:

Public Works Maintenance Superintendent: Manages the day-to-day activities of the Division, implements the budget and recommends long range planning goals

Project Coordinator: Supervises Utility Maintenance Leaders; Heavy Equipment Operators; Maintenance Mechanics; Utility Workers; Locator; Canal Maintenance Operators; Truck Drivers; Tree Trimmers and Equipment Operators.


Maintenance Chief: Supervises Maintenance Leaders; Groundskeepers; Truck Divers; Heavy Equipment Operators; Spray and Irrigation Technicians.

Operations:

Right of Way personnel are responsible for maintaining the appearance of the ROW at the Police Station, the Train Station and six Fire Stations as well as the Water Treatment Plant, 100 plus Re-pump and Lift Stations, 68.8 acres of roads.

Canal personnel are responsible for the maintenance of 30.5 acres of canal banks, two flood control structures.

Drainage personnel are responsible for storm drains and interconnecting storm water lines in the form of pipes ranging in size from 12 inches to the eight foot in diameter, that are strategically located under the streets of the City. This unit ensures the lines free of blockage from debris and roots intrusion or repairing and replacing sections of pipe. They also fabricate new manholes and water basins.

Duties:

Right of way group works toward implementing a maintenance program that includes checking irrigation, mowing of turf and weeding at various locations on an eight day rotation schedule. The fertilization of turf, pruning of trees and refurbishment of canal banks are done as needed. This group is also responsible for the maintenance and appearance of various vacant lots owned by the City.

Canal group works toward sediment removal, mowing of turf, weeding, erosion control, and spraying invasive aquatic vegetation along canal banks.

Trailers are used to move equipment to work sites scheduled for maintenance
