Canoe Assistant - Grassy Water Nature Center
Description: Enjoy the great outdoors of Sunny South Florida, share your love of nature and help protect Florida's environment! Learn more about wetlands habitat, flora and fauna while you help in many activities around our beautiful Preserve!
These canoe programs include school field trips, family outings, visiting camps and others. Programs vary from one to three hours and are offered during the day, twilight and moonlight hours.
You will assist as back up support for our guided canoe outings as you help with setup/breakdown and during the canoe outing. You may be requested to monitor and document visible plants/animals seen during outing. After outing, you will assist with clean up and putting away materials and/or all equipment.
Required: Must enjoy working outdoors and working with the public. Must be a fairly adept canoeist and be able to lift the canoes off of and back onto the canoe storage racks. You must be physically fit. Basic knowledge of the Preserves plants, animals, and habitats helpful. Training provided.
Requires a minimum commitment of two volunteer shifts per month when canoe programs are scheduled.
Shift times vary depending on program but are approximately 3 to 4 hours each.
****Minimum volunteer age 16 years old and up. A completed Volunteer application and background check is required.
