Computers, Wi-Fi, Print, Scan, Copy, FAX









There are a total of 130 computers available in the library for patron use. On the second floor of the library, we have 50 computers with internet access. All computers have Microsoft Office 2010 products loaded including Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel. Thirty-four of these computers are in the main area, 12 are in the Life Support Lab and 4 are in TeenSource.

KidSpace on the third floor has a total of 30 computers. Twenty-four of these have Microsoft Office and internet access and a number of games and educational programs for all ages. Six computers are set up for preschoolers with a variety of age-appropriate games.

The Grand Reading Room on the fourth floor has another 50 computers with internet access. All computers have Microsoft Office 2010 products loaded including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher.

Reservations can be made in the library for currently available and future reservations at reservation stations on the second and fourth floor.

Wireless internet access is available for those with wireless–enabled laptops throughout the library and urban living room as well as some areas in the courtyard outside the library.

Access to the Internet is available in West Palm Beach City Center, up to Clematis Street and Dixie Hwy. There are other free “hotspots” located in the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach and along the West Palm Beach Waterfront.

How to Connect

You need a Wi-Fi (802.11) enabled device. Most newer laptops & mobile devices have built-in Wi-Fi capabilities. Older versions may require a separate Wi-Fi card. Any device that has been certified for compliance with the Wi-Fi wireless LAN standard (IEE 802.11a/b/g) can be used.

Connecting is simple:

  1. When you’re at City Center, in the Library, or on the Waterfront, just turn on your computer (or mobile device).
  2. Select “CITYWIFI_PUBLIC” (all upper case) from the available wireless networks and open the Internet browser.
  3. You will be automatically pointed to the City’s WiFi terms and conditions – once you click on the Accept button you are connected.

Wi-Fi Warning and Disclaimer

The City of West Palm Beach provides free wireless Internet hotspots in the downtown area.

Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) lets you access the Internet without cables or wires. With a wireless networking card in your privately owned Laptop, PDA or any WiFi enabled device, you can go online from various locations in the downtown area. We support IEEE 802.11g, 802.11a (54 Mbps data rate) and 802.11b (11 Mbps data rate) connections.

As the configuration of each manufacturer’s device is unique, please refer to your documentation for connection instructions. City of West Palm Beach Staff can not be responsible for assisting you in making changes to your devices.

Scan and Fax

A scanner/fax machine is located on the 4th floor of the Library. Cost of scanning is 5¢ per page, faxing is 50¢ per page for US and Canada or $1.00 per page international. You may scan to fax, email, flash USB drive, smartphone, or your Google Drive account. Scans can be completed in black and white or color. Both an auto-feeder and a flatbed scanner are available.
