The City of West Palm Beach has been committed to sustainability targeting climate change for over a decade. We were one of the first cities in the State of Florida to have a dedicated office addressing climate change, sustainability and resiliency issues. The Office of Sustainability collaborates with various city agencies, nonprofit organizations, businesses and private citizens among other partners to enhance the viability of the municipality as a model of healthy, environmentally progressive, resilient and ecologically sustainable, urban living.  We are committed to continue to evolve to meet our City’s / region’s environmental challenges focused on exceeding our community’s expectations.

Climate HOPE: Turning Angst into Action

Climate change is a heavy topic. But, how can we get past the doom and gloom and channel our energy into action?

Join us for this FREE event on Zoom or Facebook Live as Dr. Jennifer Jones, director of the Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education at Florida Gulf Coast University, answers this question and more. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how to navigate feelings of hopelessness and turn that angst into action.

Put your knowledge to the test during a trivia game at the end and win prizes! Pour your favorite concoction and join us for a fun-filled night with the City of West Palm Beach Office of Sustainability, University of Florida’s Thompson Earth Systems Institute and Dr. Jennifer Jones.

Speaker Bio:
Dr. Jennifer Jones is an Associate Professor of Environmental Studies and Director of the Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education at Florida Gulf Coast University. Her research and teaching interests focus on the relationships between people and nature, including political ecology, biodiversity conservation, global food sustainability, and environmental governance. She previously served on the faculty of Virginia Tech, Williams College, and the University of Tennessee. Additional experiences include appointments as President & CEO of Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont and as a Program Director for the International Honors Program, part of World Learning, where she managed to study abroad programs on five continents. She currently serves on several Commissions for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
