City of West Palm Beach Connecting Public with Favorite City Programs, Activities Online

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (April 9, 2020) -- Can’t make it to your favorite West Palm Beach destinations due to COVID-19 mitigation? We are coming to you! Beginning April 10, 2020, the City of West Palm Beach will launch a series of online activities and brief videos designed to connect you to our Parks and Recreation Department, Grassy Waters Preserve, and Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach.

Friday, April 10, 2020 (10:00 a.m.) | Tie-Dye and Galaxy Eggs Painting Activity

Spring has arrived! Learn how to create tie-dye and galaxy eggs with Parks & Recreation employees.

  • Supplies needed for Tie-Dye Eggs: hard boiled eggs, food coloring, rubber bands, water, paper towels and a paper plate or some other surface for drying| Activity duration: 15 min. to create and 3 - 4 hrs.
  • Supplies needed for Galaxy Eggs: hollowed out eggs, nail polish in a variety of colors (include at least one dark color), glitter, disposable gloves, plastic cups, lukewarm water and a paper plate or some other surface for drying| Activity duration: 15 min. to create (after eggs are hollowed out and dried) and 6 - 8 hrs. to dry after painting

 

Saturday, April 11, 2020 (8:00 a.m.) | Ms. Marty’s Galaxy Eggs Painting Activity

Join Ms. Marty online to learn how to paint eggs with creatively hip designs that are out of this world!

  • Supplies needed: hard-boiled eggs, acrylic paints or markers in a variety of colors (include at least one dark color and white), egg holder or empty toilet paper roll, sponges, glue, and glitter | Activity duration:  15 min. to create and 3- 4 hrs. to dry

 

Monday, April 13, 2020 (3:00 p.m. | ‘Science in 60 Seconds’

Take a minute to learn all about alligators at Grassy Waters Preserve of West Palm Beach.

 

Tuesday, April 14, 2020 (3:00 p.m.) | Story Time Songs, Rhymes and Fingerplay

Ms. Jeanne shares a story time rhyme called "There Was a Little Turtle”.

 

Wednesday, April 15, 2020 (3:00 p.m.) Mr. Frank’s Plank Activity

Mr. Frank of Parks & Recreation challenges kids to a plank activity. This exercise helps to strengthen the core by maintaining a position similar to a push-up for the maximum possible time!

 

Thursday, April 16, 2020 (3:00 p.m.)  Studio 411 at Home

Join librarians Faith and Antoinette of the Mandel Public Library as they show you how to make mouse ears from home! The library’s Studio 411 is closed, so we're bringing the crafts to you!

Supplies needed: Yarn in 3 colors if available, cardboard, a pair of scissors, two pens, large paper clip, some decorative items like pearls or buttons, a headband, hot glue gun and super glue| Activity duration: 30 minutes

 

Friday, April 17, 2020 (3:00 p.m.) | ‘Science in 60 Seconds’

Take a minute to learn all about a tree formation called 'cypress domes' at Grassy Waters Preserve in West Palm Beach during this quick episode of 'Science in 60 Seconds.'
