City of West Palm Beach COVID-19 Update (July 31, 2020, 12:00PM)

SUMMARY: Palm Beach County had a 13.0% COVID-19 positivity rate on July 30, 2020.  Please take COVID-19 into account as a part of your Hurricane Season preparations. Residents are advised to have facial coverings and cleaning supplies as a part of their hurricane preparedness kit. When preparing for tropical storms or hurricanes, remember to practice social distancing and follow facial coverings directives.

 

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH COVID-19 DATA (data current as of 7/31/20, unless otherwise noted):

Total Florida Cases: 470,386

Positive Residents: 465,030

Hospitalizations: 26,533

Florida Resident Deaths: 6,843

Non-resident Deaths: 124

New cases of Florida residents: 8,983 on 7/30/20

TESTING & HEALTH

  • County testing suspended Friday, July 30 and Saturday, August 1, 2020. Due to impending inclement weather, all COVID-19 testing will be suspended at all Health Care District of Palm Beach County sites for Friday July 31st and Saturday August 1st, 2020. These sites include the FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, the Delray Beach, Lantana, West Palm Beach, Jupiter and Belle Glade Clinics and the mobile clinic, Scout.
  • Interactive testing map: An interactive testing map, created by Palm Beach County, features over 70 testing sites. The map will help residents find the closest private or community-based testing location for them. Several of the sites are government supported and have free testing with a variety of restrictions and processes. ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN BY OUR PARTNERS AT LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AND AGENCIES:

  • 19th Extension of Declaration of Emergency The City of West Palm Beach issued the 19th Extension of the Public Health Emergency Declaration on July 28, 2020. The extension can be viewed here: https://www.wpb.org/Home/ShowDocument?id=2371
  • Board of County Commissioners adopts Emergency Order 2020-013 On July 28, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously adopted Emergency Ordinance 2020-013. The measure amends Article II of Chapter 9 of the Palm Beach County Code of Ordinances known as the Emergency Management Ordinance, which provides procedures for enactment of emergency ordinances.

 

CITY OF WEST PALM BEACH OPERATIONS, REOPENINGS:

  • ALL TRASH PICK UP SUSPENDED AUGUST 1 AND AUGUST 2: All residential and commercial trash pick up will be suspended on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2, 2020. Service is scheduled to resume on Monday, August 3, 2020. Service halted due to possible impact of Tropical Storm Isaiah.

  • PUBLIC MEETINGS: To promote social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of West Palm Beach has turned to Zoom technology to host public meetings since April.   • Hurricane watch/Tropical Storm warning: As of 11 a.m., a Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch have been issued for our area. Please monitor local reports and the City’s website for additional information. The Atlantic Hurricane Season is underway through November 30, 2020.   • School: The first day of school is August 31, 2020. The school year will begin with distance learning.
  • 2020 Census: All West Palm Beach residents are encouraged to respond to the Census. The Census gathers data that tells the story of our community and who we are. Data is used for many things including redistricting of state and federal legislative seats and the funding of local programs such as school meals, infrastructure improvements, and public health programs.
