City of West Palm Beach Seeks Public Opinion on Parking Priorities, Preferences

Public Input to Help Shape City’s Future Parking System

The City of West Palm Beach seeks public input on what matters most to those who park in downtown West Palm Beach. The request comes on the heels of parking improvements that began to take shape in 2018, which focus on safety, security and availability. As a continuation of last year’s efforts, which were based on several City-commissioned studies, the City wants to hear from the public before moving on to the next phase of improvements. The City seeks to better understand people’s priorities in order to better manage the City’s parking supply and demand. Those who want to participate are encouraged to fill out an online survey or email the City directly. The survey will be open for one week, starting on Wednesday, January 30. Recent City stats and data from the Florida Department of Transportation both show decline in major traffic injuries and fatalities; City identifies priority corridors for safety improvements

Recent data from the City of West Palm Beach shows a more than 20 percent decline for crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists - 23 percent and 26.7 percent, respectively - from 2017 to 2018, which may be attributed to the City’s newly launched Vision Zero initiative. The road safety initiative has proven to save lives in municipalities around the world and the City’s goal is to reduce and ultimately eliminate serious injuries and fatalities on City roads. Separately, according to data released in December from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the City of West Palm Beach ranks better than other similar-sized cities with respect to serious traffic injuries and fatalities, as measured between 2013 – 2017. The category is for cities with a population of 75,000 or more and includes Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa, which all rank in the highest 25 percent for injuries and fatalities. WPB to Turn Up the Heat this Valentine’s Day at the Clematis by Night Firefighter Chili Cook-off

Bring a date down to the West Palm Beach Waterfront to benefit the West Palm Beach Fraternal Order of Firefighters

The City of West Palm Beach is turning up the heat at this year’s Clematis by Night Firefighter Chili Cook-off. The annual event is expected to be even more spicy, as it falls on Valentine’s Day. Attendees of all ages will sample more than 20 chilis, each competing for the coveted title of “best chili”. Participants include area fire departments, police departments, restaurants, caterers, and more. The event takes place on Thursday, February 14 during Clematis by Night, which has been newly branded as W.P.B. - “Where the Party Begins.” For only $10, guests will receive a wristband granting unlimited chili tastings, while supplies last. Lovebirds, and those attending as “pal-entines” or family, can also listen to free live music, which is part of Clematis by Night’s weekly offerings. New this year, visitors will have an opportunity to see how much heat they can handle on a mechanical chili ride. For $5, visitors can try their luck at staying on the mechanical-bull-ride-style attraction.
