Come feel the sun on your face and enjoy the beauty of our outdoor space. Warren Hawkins Aquatic Center is a full-service facility where everyone from kids to adults can come to swim, splash, and learn.

General Pool Information

The Warren Hawkins Aquatic Center is an 8-lane, 25 meter facility with two deep water slides, a wading pool, and a splash pad that is accessible from the pool deck and the park. The facility provides shaded areas and places for families to gather and take a break from their swimming. The facility is fully accessible and offers programming for all ages and abilities. Some programs include: Learn to Swim, Water Fitness, Water Safety Instructor, and American Red Cross Classes.

The City of West Palm Beach is also partners with the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Palm Beach County. The Drowning Prevention Coalition offers provides vouchers for free / reduced cost swim lessons for qualified children ages 2 to 12. Open and Lap Swim

Spring operating hours are effective April 1, 2020 until May 31, 2020. Summer hours are effective beginning June 1, 2020 until August 8, 2020.

Learn to Swim Program

The best thing anyone can do to stay safe in and around water is to learn to swim. Drowning remains the second-leading cause of injury-related death for children ages 1 to 12 years old. The courses listed below are based on a combination of age, skills, and completion of prerequisites. If you are unsure of the proper level, please contact us to schedule a free assessment of your child's skills.

 Youth:  6 to 16 years of age
 Adult:  16 year of age and older

 

 Water Fitness Program

Exercise in water makes you feel about 90% lighter, reports the American Council on Exercise. When you jump or run in the water, your body does not experience the same impact that these moves cause on land. Water fitness is the perfect program for those with arthritis, back problems, foot or leg injuries, and knee conditions.

 Water Safety Instructor

Participants, ages 16 and older, will learn how to teach water safety education, including Basic Water Safety course, the six levels of the Learn to Swim Program, and Parent and Child courses. A portion of this course is completed online prior to the first day of class.

Prerequisites: Swim test including performing 25 years of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, and 15 yards of butterfly.

 Lifeguard Instructor and Instructor Re-entry Course

Lifeguard Instructor Class

Upon completing this class, you will be certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor. As an LGI, you can teach the base American Red Cross Lifeguarding class, CPR, and other classes.

Prerequisites: Must be 17 years old, hold an American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification, successfully passing all the skills associated with lifeguard training certification. The course length is approximately 22 hours. This course requires an online session to be completed prior to attending the course.

 Lifeguard Instructor Re-entry Course

This class is for lifeguard instructors that let their instructor cert expire and would like to become instructors again. This course is approximately 8 hours. This class includes in-water/land skills and classroom time.
