WEST PALM BEACH, FL – As Hurricane Milton approaches Florida as a major hurricane, the City of West Palm Beach will suspend all non-essential operations beginning at noon Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, through 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2024. The Mandel Public Library also will be closing at noon Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024.
“The safety of our residents and our employees is foremost in our minds as Hurricane Milton approaches the Gulf Coast and is expected to remain a hurricane when crossing the state on Thursday,” said Mayor Keith A. James. “Only essential personnel will be working, including our West Palm Beach Police, Fire Department, and 24/7 personnel within the Public Utilities and Public Works Departments.”
Palm Beach County will be opening shelters beginning at noon Wednesday, including Forest Hill High School, 6901 Parker Ave. in the City of West Palm Beach.
Hurricane Milton is expected to bring tropical force winds and heavy rain and may cause localized flooding. If you see a flooded street or downed powerlines, it’s best to find an alternate route. Residents are reminded to remain vigilant.
