*** MEDIA ALERT ***
Come Capture the Arrival of Sandi’s Sand in West Palm Beach
850 tons of sand will be delivered to the West Palm Beach Waterfront over several days; 700 of which will be used to construct Sandi, the star of Holiday in Paradise.
WHAT: The City of West Palm Beach will begin receiving 850 tons of sand starting Monday morning, Nov. 4, 2024. The excessively large sandpiles will arrive by truckload over several days. The days-long delivery will bring 8 – 10 trucks daily to disperse 850 tons of sand on the Great Lawn. Sandi will take the bulk of the sand (700 tons), 100 tons will be used to construct other sand sculptures along the waterfront, and 50 tons will be used for a sandbox, part of the Be Good Ship Lollipop, a giant pirate ship with sand for kids to play. From sand delivery to completion, it takes about one month to ensure Sandi and the surrounding area are ready for the Clematis by Night Holiday Tree Lighting.
As with every year, Sandi, the star of the City of West Palm Beach’s Holiday in Paradise Presented by FPL, is returning with a new seasonal theme and elements. This year’s holiday extravaganza is “Sandi Shares Harmony,” making Holiday in Paradise “Your Holiday Happy Place” — a favorite local spot to leave behind your worries and all of life’s potential stressors, whether that be personal, political, or beyond. While traveling during the off-season, Sandi met Harmony, the leader of a Happy Herd of Llamas, who inspired this year’s theme. Harmony’s herd of Llamas are aptly named: NOdrama Llama, NOprob Llama, Llamaste, Fa-la-la-la-Llama, LlAmour, LlAmazing, Llama Mia, and Dolly Llama.
WHEN: Daily from Monday, Nov. 4 – Friday, Nov. 8, 2024
From 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Please note on the first day there will be activity very early in the morning with the set-up crew prepping the area for delivery – laying down boards for the trucks to drive on, etc.
WHERE: Great Lawn: 100 N. Clematis Street, West Palm Beach, FL 33401
WHY: HIP was recognized in 2021 as the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice for “Best Public Holiday Lights Display.” Since her debut in 2012, Sandi has received numerous international and regional awards and accolades, including “Best New Event” and “Best Event within an Existing Festival” by the International Festivals and Events Association, “Most Innovative Project” by the Florida Festivals and Events Association and a Henry Award from VISIT FLORIDA.
