TRAFFIC ADVISORY LEADING UP TO ELECTION NIGHT

Downtown West Palm Beach traffic will be hampered through early Wednesday due to security measures and the  expected crowd for the presidential candidate event at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.

From 10 a.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Okeechobee Boulevard will have up to two eastbound lanes closed from Parker to Rosemary Avenues for placement of security barriers and fencing. At 6 a.m. Tuesday, three eastbound lanes are scheduled to remain open, reduced from four for the duration of the event.

Westbound traffic does not have any scheduled disruptions as of this advisory except U-turns and left turns may be impacted from Parker Avenue to South Quadrille Boulevard.

Sidewalk access on the south side of Okeechobee Boulevard from Parker to Rosemary Avenues will be blocked to pedestrians. The north sidewalk on Okeechobee Boulevard will remain open as a detour for east-west foot traffic.

The best suggestion is to avoid the area around the Convention Center unless you absolutely have to go there. Consider Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard to the north and Belvedere Road to the south as better east-west routes. Be sure to plan your trip ahead and allow for extra time to reach your destination. Use real-time navigation/GPS apps to route you where you need to go.

The West Palm Beach Police Department is reminding residents and visitors to stay alert and aware of their surroundings. They are urged to report anything suspicious through the free, SaferWatch™ app (www.saferwatchapp.com), which goes directly to our 911 Emergency Communications Center and Strategic Intelligence Center. As always, 911 should be used for life-threatening emergencies and in-progress crimes.
