West Palm Beach Police Department to Enhance Event Safety
with Portable Vehicle Barriers
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (August 19, 2025) – The West Palm Beach Police Department is proud to announce the acquisition of Mifram portable vehicle barricades to enhance the safety of residents and visitors attending events in the city’s vibrant downtown district.
In recent years, law enforcement agencies nationwide have seen an increase in vehicle-borne attacks targeting public gatherings. The newly approved MVB3X barriers are a proactive measure to safeguard the community while maintaining the welcoming, open atmosphere of West Palm Beach events.
Despite weighing just 53 pounds per unit, the MVB3X is a powerful safety tool. A single officer can quickly deploy multiple lanes of coverage, opening or closing streets in seconds. The modular design ensures a perfect fit for any size roadway. The system’s lightweight engineering transfers a vehicle’s horizontal momentum into the power used to immobilize it—requiring zero maintenance.
Trailers will allow the department to transport up to 10 lanes of barriers at a time, ensuring rapid deployment anywhere in the city. This efficiency is critical for West Palm Beach, which hosts nearly 200 events annually that require road closures.
"Our top priority is public safety," said West Palm Beach Police Chief Tony Araujo. "These barriers will allow us to protect crowds while still keeping our events enjoyable, accessible, and welcoming for everyone."
The portable barriers are expected to be used for the first time at the award-winning West Palm Beach GreenMarket later this year, adding another layer of protection for one of the city’s most popular attractions.
The West Palm Beach Police Department extends its gratitude to Mayor Keith James and the City Commissioners for their continued support and commitment to keeping our city a safer, healthier place to live, work, and play.
