It was a pleasure to help celebrate the Howard Park Tennis Center renovations with an official ribbon cutting this week. I want to thank our Director of Parks and Recreation Leah Rockwell and her team for bringing this project to life. Parks are where community grows, so keeping these shared public spaces functional and beautiful is a top priority for our Parks and Rec team — and this would not have been possible without the community's participation in facility design. Great job, everyone.
This $3,170,000 project was funded through the 2020 Parks Bond and the City's general fund. It includes the resurfacing of the existing clay courts and subsurface irrigation. We also renovated two hard courts, added four pickleball courts with cushioned surfaces, installed new shaded seating, added lighting for evening play, and renovated the Tennis Center clubhouse.
If you haven't been to the park yet, I encourage everyone to enjoy these new upgrades.
— Mayor Keith A. James
