Celebrating Energy Efficiency Day at the West Palm Beach GreenMarket!
This past Saturday, the City of West Palm Beach Office of Sustainability joined the vibrant opening day of the West Palm Beach GreenMarket to celebrate Energy Efficiency Day. In partnership with participants from the Youth Climate Action Fund, we connected with residents to promote sustainable living and energy conservation.
Youth leaders distributed free energy conservation kits to help households reduce their energy use and utility bills. In addition, another student-led initiative provided custom coloring books focused on sustainability, engaging our youngest residents in fun and educational ways to care for our planet.
We’re proud to support youth-driven climate action and empower our community with tools to live more sustainably. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth—we’re energized by your enthusiasm!

Plugged In & Tossed Out Panel Discussion
October 9, 2025 (5:30 - 7:30 p.m.) at Resource Depot
Every year, millions of electronics are discarded—often still functional, but made obsolete by design. Join Resource Depot for an engaging panel discussion exploring the growing problem of e-waste and the systems that drive it, from planned obsolescence to consumer packaging. Through the lens of creative reuse, you will hear from voices across the spectrum—including artists who transform discarded tech into provocative works, repair advocates keeping devices alive, local waste professionals handling e-waste on the front lines, and a product packaging designer rethinking how things are made and marketed. Together, you'll unpack the role of design, industry, and individual action—and how creative approaches to reuse and repair can disrupt the waste cycle.
This event is an official event of Florida Climate Week presented by the Volo Foundation and is supported in part by the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County | Palm Beach County.
Featured Speakers: Christopher Jöhncke, Mitch Parker, Suhaan Mahtani and Mike Silverman.
The panel will be moderated by Jennifer O'Brien, Executive Director of Resource Depot.
Doors open at 5:30pm. The panel will begin at 6:00pm with a Q & A to follow. Light refreshments will be served. FREE.

REpair & REpurpose Cafe
October 11, 2025 (9 a.m. - 2 p.m.) at Resource Depot
Join Resource Depot for their first ever REpair & REpurpose Café, where neighbors, makers, and fixers come together to give broken items a second life (for FREE)!
What’s this event all about?
Instead of tossing your stuff in the trash, bring it to Resource Depot and sit down with a volunteer fixer who will try to help you mend, adjust, or patch it up. You’ll learn simple repair skills, connect with others, and discover just how fun and empowering fixing can be.
Their team of community fixers can help with:
- Simple sewing (buttons, small tears, stuffed animals)
- Jewelry repairs (clasps, jump rings, restringing)
- Eyeglass adjustments
- Bicycle tubes
- Phones & small electronics (screen protectors, cases, minor fixes)
- Small household items (non-electrical)
- Toys & trinkets
What can you expect?
- A friendly, drop-in format — no need to stay all day. Just bring your item and join us anytime between 9 AM and 2 PM.
- First come, first served repairs — they'll do their best, but not everything can be fixed.
- Hands-on learning — sit side-by-side with a fixer to pick up repair tips you can use at home.
- Creative reuse in action — celebrate sustainability by keeping useful items out of the landfill.
