West Palm Beach Police Department Reminds Drivers to Slow Down for Back-to-School Safety

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (August 7, 2025) – As students head back to school, the West Palm Beach Police Department is reminding motorists to drive with caution, watch for children, and follow all school zone speed limits.

With buses back on the roads, crosswalks filled with students, and parents dropping off children, drivers should expect an increase in traffic during morning and afternoon school hours. Officers urge all motorists to leave extra time for travel and stay alert — especially near schools, bus stops, and neighborhoods.

"Getting our students to school safely is a responsibility we all share," said West Palm Beach Police Department Chief Tony Araujo. "We’re asking drivers to slow down, pay attention, and be patient so every child arrives at school and home safely."

On the first day of school, officers will be stationed around the city to enforce traffic laws, monitor school zones, and assist with pedestrian safety. Drivers are reminded that speeding in a school zone or failing to stop for a school bus with its stop arm extended is not only dangerous but can also result in significant fines and penalties.

The West Palm Beach Police Department thanks the community for keeping our students safe and wishes all students, teachers, and families a wonderful first day of school.
