Pollinator Week

Pollinator Week: Pollinators and Climate Change
Pollinators need you. You need pollinators!
Birds, bats, bees, butterflies, beetles, and other small mammals that pollinate plants are responsible for bringing us one out of every three bites of food. They also sustain our ecosystems and produce our natural resources by helping plants reproduce.
Pollinating animals travel from plant to plant carrying pollen on their bodies in a vital interaction that allows the transfer of genetic material critical to the reproductive system of most flowering plants – the very plants that:
a) bring us countless fruits, vegetables, and nuts;
b) ½ of the world’s oils, fibers and raw materials;
c) prevent soil erosion;
d) and increase carbon sequestration.
This nearly invisible ecosystem service is a precious resource that requires attention and support - - and in disturbing evidence found around the globe, is increasingly in jeopardy.
Pollinator Week 2026 is a celebration of the vital role that pollinators play in our ecosystems, economies, and agriculture. Under the inspiring theme "Life on a Leaf: Celebrating Caterpillars and Host Plants," this year's event urges us to appreciate the essential role native host plants that support butterfly and moth larvae.
Healthy habitat and host plant availability are critical to the life cycle of many of our vulnerable pollinator populations. This year’s goal is to showcase the impact that individuals can have on the life cycles of many of our pollinators just by planting native host plants in their native habitat. Whether a home garden, roadside habitat, a municipality, farmland, or a corporate garden, we can all make a difference by creating important habitat or food sources through host plants for our pollinators.
Join us in celebrating Pollinator Week 2026, and let's cultivate a world where both nature and humanity thrive in harmony.
