Storytime Visit to Bezos Academy West Palm Beach
Last week, Mayor Keith A. James visited Bezos Academy West Palm Beach to gain a deeper understanding of the school’s mission and programs. During his visit, he had the pleasure of reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle to a classroom of students. Bezos Academy West Palm Beach is a tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschool now open in our community, bringing an exciting new opportunity for local families. Located on the Roosevelt Elementary School campus, this school offers a year-round, full-day program for children ages 3 to 5, with an emphasis on purposeful play, hands-on learning, and whole-child development. With space for up to 100 students across five thoughtfully designed classrooms, the academy provides all meals, supplies, and materials at no cost to families.
“Bezos Academy is more than just a school — it’s a place where families connect, support one another, and build community. We’re proud to welcome this incredible resource to our City.” — Mayor Keith A. James
Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 school year, which begins August 26. Families earning up to 400% of the federal poverty level are encouraged to apply. Admission is determined through a lottery process. This partnership between Bezos Academy and the School District of Palm Beach County represents a significant investment in early childhood education right here in our neighborhood. Learn more and apply at www.bezosacademy.org.

Juneteenth 2025
Thursday, June 19, 2025, is Juneteenth — a day to honor and celebrate Black culture, history, and resilience.
While the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, it wasn't until June 19, 1865, that Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure the last remaining enslaved African Americans were freed. This day marks the true realization of emancipation across the United States.
As we commemorate Juneteenth, let us do so with pride, unity, and a shared commitment to equality, justice, and freedom for all. Together, we can build a future that reflects the spirit and promise of this historic day.
Business Hours & Sanitation Schedule

Pride Month in West Palm Beach | June 2025
"Each June, we celebrate Pride Month by honoring the progress we’ve made and reaffirming our commitment to equity, inclusion, and dignity for all.
West Palm Beach is proud to be a community of opportunity for all, where diversity is our strength and the LGBTQ+ community continues to enrich every part of our City.
We remain committed to protecting equal rights and ensuring every resident feels safe, seen, and valued — and we applaud the organizations and advocates who work daily to advance this mission.
Night Runners West Palm Beach is one of those important organizations, and the City is proud to support their 5th Annual Pride 5K on June 21 at 6:30 p.m. This event is just one example of how we come together to celebrate, uplift, and stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ community.
Thank you, Roger Jackson, for accepting the June 2025 Pride Month proclamation on behalf of Night Runners West Palm Beach." — Mayor Keith A. James

Housing & Community Development's Homelessness Advocacy and Response Team (HART) | May 2025
Through Housing and Community Development Department’s (HCD) Homelessness Advocacy and Response Team (HART), the City of West Palm Beach continues its efforts to enhance the quality of life for its residents through the development of housing, social, and economic opportunities. City staff, in conjunction with multiple social service providers, work to connect individuals with the resources and support needed for stability and self sufficiency.
Meet Raymond
After receiving a Homeless Activity Report near Southern Boulevard and Dixie Highway, our team met Raymond, who
was living behind a store. Originally from Indiana, he came to Florida alone on a Greyhound bus, hoping for a new start — but found himself unhoused and alone.
Raymond, who speaks loudly due to hearing loss, lives with Tourette syndrome, and faces significant mental health challenges. He often yells unintentionally, gets overwhelmed easily, and struggles to engage with people — making it nearly impossible for him to access services on his own.
The HART team knew right away that without intervention, his future was bleak. They stepped in to connect him with medical and psychiatric care, stabilize his benefits, and restart his medications. They also helped him with food stamps and secured him a hotel/motel placement.
Raymond now has an upcoming appointment to apply for Long-Term Care (LTC), with the goal of placing him in an assisted living facility where he can receive the consistent care and support he needs.
We're proud to stand beside clients like Raymond — proving that with the right support, even the most complex cases can move toward stability.
