Early morning fire kills multiple dogs, exposes horrid animal living conditions

WEST PALM BEACH , Fla. (June 15, 2026) — West Palm Beach Fire and Police Departments responded to a fire along the 400 block of 16th Street around 7:05 a.m.

The blaze occurred inside a wooden shed located on the commercial property. At the time of the fire, several dogs were locked inside of the shed, resulting in the death of four dogs and injuries to another.

Further investigation revealed another dog on the property, which was not injured, and six cats housed inside of a shipping container also on the property. All animals were found to be living in squalor.

Animal Care and Control took custody of the surviving animals and all are expected to recover from injuries.

The property was cited on June 11, 2026, by the City of West Palm Beach Code Compliance Division for multiple property maintenance violations.

The investigation remains ongoing.
