In compliance with West Palm Beach Standard Operating Procedure II-3, submission of an application is required to engage the extra-duty services of police officers for public safety, health, and welfare services in addition to those already provided to the public. Please note that this is a non-binding agreement. Requests for extra-duty services are selected by the officers and not assigned to them. Payment for extra-duty services will be made through the currently contracted extra-duty administrative company. West Palm Beach police officers are only authorized to work events within the jurisdiction of the City of West Palm Beach.
To complete an application, click on the “Hire an Off-Duty Officer Form” link below. If you have any issues completing the information on the below link, please contact Off Duty Management at (561) 234-4302.
Officers may need to be removed from extra duty details at any time during exigent public safety circumstances.
The police department may cancel this permit without advance notice or cause at any time. The West Palm Beach Police Department will attempt to place officers during the requested dates and hours. However, because of emergencies, the inability to find an officer to work this detail, or other unforeseen circumstances, this permit may not be filled when requested. The West Palm Beach Police Department will not permit an officer to work in the capacity of “bouncer” at a bar or other establishment where liquor is served. Effective August 1, 2024, the West Palm Beach Police Department will require a minimum of two officers to work at any establishment or event that sells, provides, or allows the consumption of alcohol during operating hours.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a three (3) hour minimum payment for all details. In accordance with the current Application for Extra Duty Police Service form, if a detail is not canceled within 24 hours prior to the scheduled start date, the vendor is responsible for the 3-hour minimum payment to the member.
A vendor has the right to select a higher rate of pay for an off-duty officer to ensure coverage should they choose for prime date details (such as Black Friday or Valentine’s Day). This rate of pay does not allow the vendor to select the officer, and the detail selection must adhere to this policy. The rate of pay cannot exceed the current maximum officer holiday rate of pay.

Special Unit Request: This will be an additional twenty ($20.00) dollars per hour depending on the pay scale above or the current department pay scale, whichever is higher (i.e., Motor, Bomb, SWAT, K-9, etc.).
If a specialty unit is requested on a holiday, recognized special rate day, or with less than seven days' notice, an additional $20.00 per hour will be charged.
Exceptions to the Regular Rates: The following days will be charged at the Holiday rate:
- Thanksgiving Day (0000-2400 Hours)
- Christmas Eve (0000-2400 Hours)
- Christmas Day (0000-2400 Hours)
