Apply with a law enforcement agency that offers sponsorship to attend the police academy.

How long does the hiring process take with the West Palm Beach Police Department (WPBPD)?
The hiring process with WPBPD typically takes approximately 6 to 12 weeks from start to finish.
I am an out-of-state law enforcement officer looking to relocate to Florida. What is the process?
If you previously completed a police academy in another state and have at least one full year of law enforcement experience, you may qualify to complete the Equivalency of Training (EOT) course at a Florida-approved institution.
West Palm Beach Police Department (WPBPD) is actively looking to sponsor qualified candidates through the EOT process.
Steps to become certified in Florida:

Enroll in the EOT course at an approved Florida institution, such as Palm Beach State College.

Successfully complete the Florida State Officer Certification Exam after finishing EOT.

How long am I required to work road patrol at WPBPD?
Officers are required to work a minimum of one year on road patrol, which includes the successful completion of field training and the probationary period.
Will I be assigned a take home vehicle?
Yes, each officer is assigned a take home vehicle.
What is the West Palm Beach Police Department’s policy on tattoos and facial hair?
Visible tattoos must not be obscene, sexual, or offensive. Tattoos are not permitted on the hands, fingers, or neck, and nothing may be visible above the collarbone. Facial hair must comply with departmental grooming standards.
Pension Program?
You will be enrolled in the City of West Palm Beach Police Retirement System plan, overseen by a five-member Police Pension Board of Trustees.
