Black History Month
It’s officially Black History Month, a time to celebrate and honor the legacy of African Americans throughout our nation’s history. Today, and every day, we recognize the rich cultural heritage, resilience, and enduring contributions of Black individuals in America. We reflect on how their profound impact continues to shape and strengthen our communities today.
As we celebrate Black History Month here in West Palm Beach, let's take a look back at two iconic locations in the Historic Northwest: The legendary Sunset Lounge and Heart & Soul Park.
These locations hold happy memories for many residents, full of history and shared stories. Take a moment to watch WPB-TV's video here.

During the month of February, we also encourage residents to attend City events celebrating Black History Month and to connect with educational resources, such as the Black Life in American online NewsBank collection, and programming at the Mandel Public Library.
Attend library programs such as the "African and African American History in Florida" lecture and the teen and tween BHM trivia program.
If you missed this week's City Commission meeting, watch the recording of Mayor James as he officially proclaims February 2025 as Black History Month in West Palm Beach and locally recognizes six incredible Black individuals as this year's Heritage Heroes and Honorees.
