City of West Palm Beach West Palm Beach Fire Department
Launches 2nd Annual Junior Alerts Program

WEST PALM BEACH,FL (June 26, 2025) – West Palm Beach teenagers are back on the fire lines this summer in the 2nd Annual WPBFD Junior Alerts Program. The cooperative effort with the Florence DeGeorges Boys & Girls Club launched its second instructional program Monday, June 23, 2025, to teach and expose local youth to the fire service.

Began in 2024, the program is a collaboration between the Club and WPBFD and designed to teach the fundamentals of firefighting and emergency medical care. In addition to the technical training, the program emphasizes essential life skills, including leadership, responsibility, discipline and teamwork.

“These teens have been engaged since the moment they stepped off the bus—intrigued by how firefighters operate on a daily basis and eager to get hands-on with every piece of equipment shown to them,” said Captain Brandon Simmons of WPBFD. “This program is about more than firefighting and medical care -- it’s about building integrity, character, and confidence.”

The weekly Junior Alerts program exposes youths to the skills taught by certified WPBFD firefighters at Fire Station 3, 5050 Broadway, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
