City of West Palm Beach Celebrates Completion of
North Shore Pedestrian Bridge Improvements
WEST PALM BEACH, FL (September 5, 2025) – The City of West Palm Beach today celebrated the completion of the North Shore Pedestrian Bridge Improvements Project with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) granted Final Acceptance for the project on August 11, 2025, marking a significant step forward for safety, access, and connectivity in the North Shore community.

North Shore Neighborhood Association past president Leslie Perry, left, and James Walderon, right, current association president, are ready to cut the ribbon and open the North Shore Pedestrian Bridge, and City of West Palm Beach, FDOT and other officials look on.
The $2.7 million project, delivered in partnership with FDOT and funded through the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency’s (TPA) Transportation Alternatives Program, brings important enhancements to the area, including:
-
Construction of a prefabricated steel pedestrian bridge on the west side of North Shore Drive over the Carver Canal
-
Realignment of the sidewalk on the west side of North Shore Drive to connect to the new bridge
-
Reconstruction of drainage outfalls along both sides of the bridge
-
Replacement and upgrade of impacted signage
-
Installation of lighting at each end of the new pedestrian bridge
“Here in West Palm Beach, we are committed to building a city where every resident has safe and reliable ways to get around,” said Mayor Keith A. James. “This new bridge is more than just infrastructure – it’s about giving students a safer route to school, helping neighbors connect, and enhancing quality of life for everyone in this community.”
The North Shore Pedestrian Bridge Improvements Project was sponsored by the City of West Palm Beach and advanced with the support of the Palm Beach TPA. FDOT oversaw the design and construction.
This investment is part of the City’s broader efforts to improve mobility and safety in the area, which also include traffic-calming enhancements, upgraded roadway striping and signage, improvements to the median island at the 45th Street neighborhood entrance, and ongoing lighting upgrades.
