City of West Palm Beach Art in Public Places Committee Announces a Call to Artists

The Commons: 5 Artists 5 Spaces

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (April 6, 2026) — The City of West Palm Beach’s Art in Public Places Committee (AiPP) is proud to announce a call to artists for The Commons: 5 Artists, 5 Spaces, a public art initiative designed to support and elevate the local creative community.

Originally launched during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide critical support to artists, The Commons has continued as a signature program of the City’s public art efforts. The initiative offers funding for Palm Beach County artists to bring their work beyond the studio and into shared public spaces, creating temporary installations that engage the community.

The fourth iteration of The Commons, titled “Feast for the Ears,” explores the theme of sound. Artists are invited to create work that reflects the many ways sound is experienced and interpreted. While applicants do not need to be sound artists, selected proposals should incorporate an audio element — whether through physical structures that produce or hold sound, or visual representations that symbolize sound.

Proposed installations should encourage collective listening experiences, inviting quiet reflection, highlighting natural surroundings, and fostering an awareness of the existing soundscape present in public space. The visual realization of each artwork should bring awareness to the sensory experience of listening.

For the fourth iteration the City’s Public Art Program is partnering with the Mandel Public Library to integrate a unique public art for the library’s teen area.  One or two artists will be selected to work with teens ranging in ages from 13-17 to design their space. An additional $10,000 in funding from the West Palm Beach Library Foundation has been designated for the Teen area.

The call to artists is open to professional artists aged 18 and older who currently live in Palm Beach County. For application details, visit publicartist.org
